Why Microdose at All?

Athletes, techies, moms, artists, CEOs - the types of people who have found microdosing to be an integral part of their wellness is vast. What benefit does the practice of microdosing mushrooms give them? What are they aware of that others are missing out on?

First, microdosing works wonders on mental and emotional health and, with guidance, it does so quickly. Not only are there are records of cultures microdosing for cognitive, physical, and emotional benefit dating back 1000s of years, there are tens of thousands of current experiential anecdotes from citizen scientists, and though clinical and research trials are just starting to catch up, their data backs up what so many people have known all along.

Second, microdosing is gentle and essentially embodies the Hippocratic ethos of “First, do no harm”. While there are a few considerations to factor in, the physical and mental risks are incredibly low.

Third, microdosing is designed to fit into your day to day life. Whereas a full psychedelic experience tends to be an all-day event, a microdosing schedule slots right into your lifestyle.

Fourth, microdosing fosters non-judgmental self-awareness. Think of the last time you had clarity about yourself without judging yourself. This is common when microdosing and one of the biggest differentiating factors between current pharmacological drugs - particularly mental health ones - and the substances commonly used for microdosing.

There’s more, but those are the main ones I see making an impact on clients. The invaluable sum of it all is that microdosing is a skill that you can put into practice, not just a medication you take.

You can go it alone, as many of my clients tried before realizing that they weren’t quite getting the results they thought they would.

But why are the results that much harder to come by alone, and what makes for effective microdosing guidance?

Does Microdosing Actually Work?

If you’re reading this chances are you’ve already explored microdosing: read articles, watched documentaries, maybe even tried it. You’ve heard about the benefits of microdosing mushrooms for anxiety, PTSD, depression, ADHD and more. But ‘where do I start’ and ‘how long do I have to microdose for’ and ‘how do I know my microdose is working’ are questions that aren’t confidently answered by going it on your own, and they are the barriers I hear most often from new clients.

I’ve guided and taught the skill of microdosing to moms, executives, small business owners, single parents, lawyers, athletes, artists, musicians, writers, all ranging in age from their 20s to their 70s.

Some have been struggling with mental illnesses, others recently realized they’ve had ADHD their whole lives and are trying to reconcile with the impact that’s had on their wellbeing. There are clients that want to be more productive with their professions, and others want to easily get into a creative or athletic flow state. I’ve had clients who are trying to connect with ancestral wisdom and heal generational trauma, and others who are on a quest to reconnect with the joy they used to hold for their lives. And some can’t describe what they want, they just know they want to feel better.

My friends know that I am pragmatic to the core, so I say this without an ounce of hyperbole: Each one of my clients has found success in their goals with microdosing. And their transformation has happened faster than they expected.

Can you name another process, medication, supplement, or anything that has that track record of success? Maybe ice-cream or therapy dogs?

What is Your Microdosing Approach?

Microdosing results aren’t happenstance, but achieved by design. 

Where people fail with microdosing is when they treat it like a supplement or medication that you take passively. That might work but based on the amount of people who tell me they tried microdosing that way and didn’t see results, you’re not stacking the odds in your favor.

My approach is to embrace that microdosing works as a catalyst between your present state and your desired state of being. In the event that you, like me, slept through high school chemistry in a burned out ADHD haze, a catalyst works by lowering the amount of energy needed for a reaction to proceed. This can either bring the two reactants (the things the catalyst is working on) closer together or it stabilizes the relationship between the reactants.

A healthy microdosing regimen stabilizes the relationship between your present and future self, bringing you closer to your desired state of being.

If you do nothing else but embody that definition in your approach to microdosing, you will start to see results.

Why Should I Work With a Microdosing Guide?

Friend, if you’ve explored microdosing on your own you’ve probably heard all the best practices to put in place.

So, we gotta talk about this. I used to buy into best practices, but the more I tested them, the more I saw that the best practices were, um, not the best. And frankly detrimental to results in most cases.

I’m talking about the commonly dispersed customs like these:

You have to microdose in the morning.

You have to microdose on an empty stomach.

You can microdose or take your depression/ADHD medication. You can’t do both.

If you microdose too often, you build up a tolerance.

You must have an intention every time you microdose.

Your dose depends on your body weight.

Only certain strains of mushrooms work best for microdosing.

You shouldn’t feel your microdose working.

Not only have I seen so many exceptions to each of these, most of these ‘best’ practices keep people from seeing results!

And results are why we’re here, right?

Microdosing, being the catalyst it is, stabilizes and shortens the path to results.

Do you know what makes that path even shorter? Clarity.

This is where the immense advantage of having a guide comes into play.

Imagine having a path in front of you that leads straight to your goal. You can practically taste the relief you’ll feel once you get there. The joy, the peace, the connection to a self you could only dream of embodying except that dream is about to be reality. You know it. You just have to walk the path.

But you have doubts. An immense fog blankets the path and it’s hard to see what the next steps to take are. At times the fog clears and the sight of your destination fills you with resolve. But as soon as you feel you’ve made some progress, the mist rolls back in thick and you’re left unsure of your steps again.

What if you had someone with you? Someone who has traversed not only this path many times before, but knows all the paths that lead to your destination. Someone who’s willing, able, and happy to support you and guide you, who knows when you need to rest and eat a friggin’ snack and when to sprint full throttle towards your destination. Someone, say, who has shoulder length curly hair, too many tattoos, and is exceedingly handsome (so their mother claims).

That kind of clarity, the kind that gets you to your goal feeling stronger and more confident. That clarity is practically priceless.
